Dext collects your bills and receipts from wherever they arrive: email, a phone photo, WhatsApp, or supplier portals such as your phone or electricity provider. It reads each one and sends it to the right category in QuickBooks with the correct VAT and a copy of the document attached. It also checks supplier statements and flags any missing bills. QuickBooks works without Dext, but it works much better with it. We recommend Dext for almost every client, because it saves hours of typing every month.

No. The QuickBooks app lets you photograph a receipt, but you still have to pick the supplier, type in the amount and choose the category yourself. It also doesn’t handle mixed VAT rates or foreign currencies. Dext does all of that for you.

Dext is priced by the number of bills you process each month. Most small businesses with up to 250 bills a month pay around €20 a month. Your first 30 days are free, so you can try it before committing.

Both come from the same company. Dext handles your purchase bills and receipts. Dext Commerce brings in sales from online platforms such as Shopify. You may not need Dext Commerce if your sales already flow into QuickBooks another way, and we’ll advise you on this.

Your data is held securely in the cloud and backed up automatically, so you don’t need to run your own backups. If you’d like your own copy, the QuickBooks Advanced plan lets you download a full backup whenever you want.

Each asset account lists the assets in it. Automatic monthly depreciation is available on the QuickBooks Advanced plan.

Yes. QuickBooks Advanced supports customer-specific pricing, for example retail, wholesale and key accounts. If your prices are managed in another system, such as an ecommerce or stock app, QuickBooks uses the prices that system sends through.

Not directly. QuickBooks receives your bank transactions automatically, but payments are still made through your online banking. If you need a bulk supplier payment file, talk to us and we can look at add-on options.

Card takings go into a clearing account, and the payout from your card provider (less fees) clears it when it reaches your bank. PayPal connects as a bank feed. We’ll look at your payment providers during setup and automate as much of this as possible.

Yes. QuickBooks can send receipts by WhatsApp, or you can print them and post them as usual.
